Press & Website Reviews:

"Takumi is a wagyu specialist, its preferred style of cookery "sumibi yakiniku" - on the tabletop cooked over charcoal. The bucket of coals is equipped with powerful (but quiet) vents that suck away the smoke so you don't end up leaving smelling like a kipper.

What makes Takumi a great experience is its use of Blackmore wagyu. David Blackmore supplies the likes of Thomas Keller's Per Se and French Laundry in the US, as well as Neil Perry's Rockpool Bar and Grill here. It's the best Australian wagyu I've tried."

"My family and I really enjoyed our dinner at Takumi. The beef were excellent quality and so yummy. The marinated beef are very tasty, and my children loved them with the steam rice. There are a variety of sake and a few different types of Japanese beers. If you are looking for a hangout and drinking place, this place is excellent as there are many small plates of food suitable for nibbly. The service was excellent. Overall if you are looking for a Japanese restaurant in the city, do try this one out and you won't be disappointed."

"No matter how fantastic the food is, great service is a pre-requisite for an outstanding restaurant, and Takumi certainly delivers it. Our host, Mimi, was particularly excellent in ensuring our evening went as smoothly as possible. She also took the time to have a chat with us before we left."

"Great ambience, best wagyu beef selection. The smokeless grille serves as the centre point for gathering makes it an ideal night out with friends. My personal favourites are the signature dishes especially the Takumi special and Salmon carpaccio, we had the set menu which offered a perfect range and the dishes just kept coming, the grilled wagyu was just mouth watering....we definitely will be back. "

"The selection of Wagyu beef was impressive and as equaly impressive as it entered my mouth (both raw & slightly cooked)and the Soba noodle salad was as good as it gets. If your keen like i am try the ox tounge and the boiled scollops with Wasabi (Goes fantastic with serving of warm Sake) This reataurant is perfect for a romantic evening aided by the drop down curtain for seclusion or a group dinner that keeps everyone talking and anticipating the next dish. Well done to the staff at Takumi Restaurant."

Real Reviews from Real Diners:

Takumi is a perfect for something a bit different. Genuine Japanese cuisine (as eaten by real Japanese people) with the added fun of cooking some of your own food at your table. A real winner for a special occasion, first date or for small groups (up to about eight).

Takumi is an absolute gem. The staff are very obliging and helpful and the quality of the food is outstanding. We had one of the set menu banquets and couldn't fault a single thing. The sake list is also quite good and reasonable value.

Their courses are excellent for dinner for small groups (couples and family), but also all you can eat menu is great for group dinners and parties!

This is the third time I have been to Takumi and it never fail to impress us and the friends we take. This has become one of our musttry recommendation whenever friends come visit from overseas or interstate. The quality of the food is no doubt the highlight of the experience and the smokeless bbq they have are great especially when you are planning to go out after dinner. I thoroughly enjoy this restaurant and will continue to visit frequently.

The food, service & atmosphere were all superb, with the Wagyu being worth the trip alone. Prices were excellent, & even with the cost of city parking it is still an inexpensive night out.I WILL be back, & will be recommending Takumi to my friends.

We choose the all you can eat menu. Wagyu was great, juicy, and tasty. Good service and environment.
